While working on another post, I came across this quote from Henry David Thoreau, "I am grateful for what I am and have. My Thanksgiving is perpetual".
I was struck by how profound and simple the message was and wanted to share it.
Over the last couple of years, I have tried to practice daily gratitude and mindfulness. I've even tried to get the family to do it with me at Sunday dinner. I'm still not disciplined enough with it, but I'm getting better and I have some plans in place to keep improving.
Whether you say it out loud, internally, or even write it down, it really does help to think about what you are grateful for.
Learning to have gratitude for what I have and don’t have in my life, is a journey worth travelling - it offers many rewards, the main one for me is small periods of true, real contentment.
